去年台灣正式進入 4G 行動上網時代，由於 3G 速度實在太慢，大家一窩蜂改辦 4G。截至 2014 年底，四家電信的 4G 用戶數已達 355 萬。其中，中華電信 4G 用戶數為 133 萬戶，台灣大哥大 110 萬戶，遠傳電信則為 94 萬戶，台灣之星僅有 18 萬用戶。

事實上，台灣的 3G 行動上網在 2005 年上線，到了 2011 年，使用 3G 上網人口漸趨飽和，每個用戶分到的頻寬非常少，在這一年，電信業者被投訴無法連網、速度偏慢的案例愈來愈多，台灣人也忍受 3G 龜速長達三年。一直到 2014年 4G 服務上線，行動上網速度才終於從個位數（5Mbps）提升到十位數（50Mbps）。
