紅雀小熊三連戰最後一場，紅雀全場雖然僅靠著Matt Holliday的陽春砲攻下1分，但先發投手Adam Wainwright主投7局無失分，加上後援投手成功守住，終場以1比0力退小熊，Wainwright拿下第13勝(5敗)，獨居大聯盟勝投王。

「比賽結果都是跟著我的投球狀況而定」Wainwright說「當我掌握我的狀況時，只要正常的發揮，成功就會隨之而來。」

紅雀隊在第1局就先馳得點，3棒的Matt Holliday逮到小熊先發投手Kyle Hendricks的失投球，轟出陽春全壘打。雖然紅雀隊後幾局仍有攻占到得點圈，但都無功而返。

1分的領先或許不是很多，但Wainwright就靠著這僅僅1分，力投7局只被擊出5支安打，送出3次三振與3次保送，沒有讓小熊隊越池一步。　

紅雀在8、9兩局由Kevin Siegrist與終結者Trevor Rosenthal上場，小熊隊仍無法突破封鎖，兩人成功守住球隊勝利，Rosenthal也拿下個人第32次救援成功。
